Another wedding in India

I remember the last time I was in Kolkata, India for a wedding.

Kolkata beckoned with its literary legacy and artistic spirit. Walking the same streets as Rabindranath Tagore and visiting the iconic Victoria Memorial felt like stepping into the pages of history. The city's fervor during Durga Puja, with its elaborately adorned pandals and artistic sculptures, was a visual spectacle. The simplicity of enjoying a cup of chai at a roadside stall and savoring the quintessential Kolkata street food, like phuchka and kathi rolls, created moments of sheer delight.

And then the wedding itself..

A traditional Bengali wedding was a truly enchanting experience. The vibrant and colourful celebrations were a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. The wedding began with the Gaye Holud ceremony, where turmeric paste was applied to the bride and groom's skin as a symbol of blessings and purification. The air was filled with joyous laughter and traditional songs, creating an atmosphere of merriment.

The main wedding ceremony, or "Bou Bhat," took place with intricate rituals and a grand feast that featured a delectable array of Bengali cuisine, including mouthwatering sweets like rasgulla and sandesh. The ornate attire, elaborate jewelry, and the warm hospitality made the wedding in Kolkata an unforgettable celebration of love and culture, leaving me with cherished memories of this cultural extravaganza.

The ceremony was a fascinating blend of customs, from the sacred "Saat Paak," where the bride walked around the groom seven times, signifying their union for seven lifetimes, to the exchange of garlands and the recitation of hymns.

The wedding in Kolkata was not just a union of two souls but also a celebration of the vibrant Bengali culture. The ornate attire, the intricate jewelry, the heartfelt rituals, and the undeniable sense of togetherness made this event a cherished memory that I carry with me for a lifetime. It was a beautiful reminder of the enduring traditions that connect people, and I felt privileged to have been invited by friends to be part of this wonderful experience.

I am looking forward to a wedding trip to Hyderabad soon. It won't be my first time to the city and I hope it won't be the last!
